The Weekend Lineup

July 31–August 2in & around Central Florida

Michael Allman plays Ocala Saturday, a $150,000 Grand Prix jumps free that same night at WEC, and Mount Dora's first-ever Restaurant Week closes out. It's hot and wet all three days -- 89 to 92 with storms daily -- so lean into the indoor and evening picks. Michael Allman brings the Allman Brothers catalog to the Civic Theatre, the Hampton Green Farm Grand Prix runs free under the lights, Derek Spence does George Strait at the Opry, and Restaurant Week wraps Sunday. Here's the weekend.

Fri

Friday

Fri 7:30 PM

The Woodview Players open their beach-comedy run at the Valerie Theatre in Inverness -- Friday evening, then Saturday and Sunday matinees. Twenty dollars, and a nicely air-conditioned way to spend a stormy Florida evening.

Fri 6 to 10 PM
Live music on the town squares
free

The Villages squares are lit up every night: Groove Slayers at Spanish Springs, Hacksaw Hamlin at Lake Sumter Landing, The 789s at Brownwood, and Zee-R Band at Eastport. Summer hours run to 10, free as always.

Sat

Saturday

Sat 7:30 PM

Gregg Allman's son plays the Allman Brothers songbook at the Ocala Civic Theatre. Forty dollars general, sixty-five for VIP, and it's the marquee night in the market -- indoors, which is the right place to be this weekend.

Sat 7:30 PM

World-class show jumping under the lights in the WEC Grand Arena, and admission and parking are both free. It's one of the best free evenings anywhere in the region -- just mind the heat, since it's an outdoor arena on a 91-degree night.

Sat 2:30 & 7 PM

Two chances Saturday -- a 2:30 matinee and a 7 o'clock show -- for a full night of George Strait at the Opry in Weirsdale. Thirty-one to forty-six dollars. Pick your time and go.

Sun

Sunday

Sun 9 AM to 2 PM
Sunset Park

The weekly market in Sunset Park, free and easy, 9 to 2. Go in the morning -- storms are likely by afternoon. And it's the last day of Mount Dora's first-ever Restaurant Week across Mount Dora, Eustis, and Tavares, so it's a fitting morning to wander downtown and book one last lunch, with $30 lunch and $50 dinner caps still on.

That's the weekend.
