Best Coffee Shops on the Gulf Coast

You don't need us to find the Starbucks drive-through. What you might not know is that the Alabama Gulf Coast has developed a genuinely interesting independent coffee scene — local roasters pulling serious shots, cozy cafes tucked into downtown storefronts, and a few places where you can drink excellent coffee while staring at the Gulf. Here's where to go, organized by what you're actually looking for at 7:30 in the morning.

## Gulf Shores

### Foam Coffee

[Foam Coffee](/places/foam-coffee) at 313 East 22nd Avenue is Gulf Shores' first proper craft coffee shop, and it still sets the standard. The space has a surf-inspired vibe — casual, bright, and the kind of place you want to be before the beach. They source locally roasted beans and do everything from signature lattes to matcha to cold brew. Open daily 7 AM to 2 PM. Get here early on weekends.

**What to order:** Their seasonal lattes rotate and they're consistently good. If it's warm, the cold brew is excellent.

### [Southern Shores Coffee](/directory/southern-shores-coffee/)

[Southern Shores Coffee](/places/southern-shores-coffee) is an artisan roaster that sources responsibly grown beans from around the world and roasts them right here. Their signature blend is the Bushwacker coffee — a nod to the famous local cocktail, flavored with cream of coconut and chocolate undertones. It's sweet without being ridiculous, and it's the kind of thing you can only get down here.

**What to order:** The Bushwacker blend, obviously. But their straight espresso is solid too.

### [Anchored Coffee House](/directory/anchored-coffee-house/)

[Anchored Coffee House](/places/anchored-coffee-house) is a comfortable, community-focused shop that does coffee and light bites without trying too hard. It's a good work-from-the-road spot with Wi-Fi and enough elbow room to spread out.

### [Happy Pappys Coffeehouse](/directory/happy-pappys-coffeehouse/)

[Happy Pappys Coffeehouse](/places/happy-pappys-coffeehouse) is a cheerful local spot that gets the basics right — fresh coffee, friendly service, and a laid-back beach-town atmosphere.

### [Beach Girl Coffee](/directory/beach-girl-coffee/), [West Beach Coffee House](/directory/west-beach-coffee-house/) & [Gulf Shores Coffee Co.](/directory/gulf-shores-coffee-co/)

The beach side of town has more options than you'd expect. [Beach Girl Coffee](/places/beach-girl-coffee), [West Beach Coffee House](/places/west-beach-coffee-house), and [Gulf Shores Coffee Co.](/places/gulf-shores-coffee-co) all do solid coffee and have their own regulars. If you're staying on the west end, West Beach is your go-to.

## [Orange Beach](/directory/orange-beach/)

### [BuzzCatz Coffee & Sweets](/directory/buzzcatz-coffee-sweets/)

[BuzzCatz Coffee & Sweets](/places/buzzcatz-coffee-sweets) at 25689 Canal Road is the anchor of Orange Beach's coffee scene. They roast locally, bake in-house, and the pastry case alone is worth the stop. The coffee is consistently good — classic espresso drinks done right — and they stay open late by coffee shop standards (until 9:30 PM most nights, 10 PM on weekends). BuzzCatz has become the place in Orange Beach where people actually hang out, not just grab a to-go cup.

**What to order:** Anything from the pastry case paired with a latte. The cinnamon rolls have a following.

### The Southern Grind Coffee House

[The Southern Grind Coffee House at the Wharf](/places/the-southern-grind-coffee-house-at-the-wharf) is inside the Wharf entertainment district and serves coffee alongside comfort food, homemade desserts, and gelato. It's a good stop if you're already at the Wharf, and the food menu goes well beyond the usual coffee shop offerings.

### [Coastal Coffee Co.](/directory/coastal-coffee-co/) & [Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii](/directory/bad-ass-coffee-of-hawaii/)

[Coastal Coffee Co.](/places/coastal-coffee-co) is a solid everyday stop. [Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii](/places/bad-ass-coffee-of-hawaii) brings Kona-style beans to the Gulf — a different flavor profile from the local roasters and worth trying if you like your coffee with tropical roots.

## Fairhope

### Latte Da at Page & Palette

[Latte Da](/places/latte-da) inside [Page & Palette](/places/page-palette) at 32 South Section Street is the coffee-and-bookstore combination that every town wishes it had. Page & Palette is a third-generation family-owned bookstore that's been a Fairhope landmark for over 40 years, and Latte Da operates inside it. Order a cortado, grab a novel off the shelf, and settle into one of the best mornings the Eastern Shore has to offer. Latte Da is open Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 8:30 AM to 5 PM, Sunday 9 AM to 4 PM.

**What to order:** A cortado and a new paperback. This is a place to stay a while.

### [The Coffee Loft](/directory/the-coffee-loft/) & [Bullet Coffee Company](/directory/bullet-coffee-company/)

[The Coffee Loft](/places/the-coffee-loft) and [Bullet Coffee Company](/places/bullet-coffee-company) both do good work in [downtown Fairhope](/directory/downtown-fairhope/). [The Coffee Loft](/directory/the-coffee-loft/) is a cozy upstairs spot, while Bullet skews more toward the specialty-coffee-forward crowd.

### [Refuge Coffee](/directory/refuge-coffee/)

[Refuge Coffee](/places/refuge-coffee) and their dedicated [Roastery](/places/refuge-coffee-roastery) in Fairhope roast their own beans and take the craft seriously. If you want to buy a bag of beans to take home, this is the spot.

### Provision

[Provision](/places/provision) is technically a market-cafe-wine bar hybrid, but their coffee program is strong and the space is beautiful. It's a good stop that bridges morning coffee and afternoon browsing.

## Daphne & Beyond

### [Summer Moon Coffee](/directory/summer-moon-coffee/) & [Cloud Mountain Coffee](/directory/cloud-mountain-coffee/)

[Summer Moon Coffee](/places/summer-moon-coffee) and [Cloud Mountain Coffee](/places/cloud-mountain-coffee) in Daphne give the Eastern Shore two more strong options. Summer Moon is part of a small Texas-based chain known for their wood-fired roasting, and Cloud Mountain is a local favorite with a loyal following.

### SnS Coffee — Summerdale

[SnS Coffee](/places/sns-coffee) in Summerdale is off the beaten path but worth knowing about, especially if you're heading between Foley and Bay Minette.

## The Bottom Line

The Gulf Coast coffee scene has grown quietly and quickly. Five years ago, your options were basically the chains and whatever your condo's Keurig had to offer. Now there are genuine roasters, real cafes, and places where the baristas actually care whether you like your drink. The beach is still the main event, but the coffee has gotten a lot more interesting.
