July 31–August 2in & around Coastal Alabama & Northwest Florida
The Liverpool Legends do the full Beatles show Friday, The Wallflowers close the weekend Sunday, and it's the last weekend for Radium Girls in Fairhope. Plan indoors -- it's a wet one all three days, worst on Sunday. The good news is the marquee stuff is all under a roof: Liverpool Legends at the Saenger Friday, The Wallflowers there Sunday, E.T. on the big screen Saturday, and Radium Girls taking its final bow. Here's the weekend.
Friday
A note-for-note Beatles tribute -- put together by George Harrison's own sister, actually -- in the beautiful old Saenger. The kind of show where the whole room ends up singing, and a perfect place to be on a rainy Friday night.
The city's free back-to-school family send-off at the Waterfront Park, 5:30 to 7:30. A last easy evening out with the kids before the school year -- it's outdoors, so keep an eye on the Friday storm chance.
Saturday
Spielberg's classic back on the big screen inside the Saenger, air conditioning and all. On a Saturday this wet, a matinee in a grand old theatre is exactly the right call for the family.
The long-running '80s tribute plays Soul Kitchen over in Mobile -- doors at 7, show at 9, twenty bucks in advance. Big costumes, big hits, a proper night-out dance party if you're up for the drive.
Closing weekend for Fairhope's staging of the true story of the factory workers who took on their employer. Friday and Saturday evenings plus a final Sunday matinee. Twenty-five dollars, twenty for students -- last chance to catch it.
Sunday
Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers close the weekend at the Saenger, playing the record that gave you "One Headlight" and "6th Avenue Heartache." Sunday's the wettest day of the three, so an indoor headliner is the way to end it. Ticketed.
That's the weekend.
