Rock & Roll and the Vietnam War

During the Vietnam War, rock and roll became both the soundtrack and a powerful participant in the American experience. This presentation from Dr. J. Michael Butler, Kenan Distinguished Professor of History at Flagler College, uses music to illustrate the hopes, fears, divisions and protests of a generation, and highlights how musicians responded to the war through songs that addressed patriotism, dissent, race, military service and the counterculture. Ultimately, the Vietnam War reflects how popular music both shapes and reflects political debate, cultural change and historical memory. No registration is required.
